This is a short ebook about the history of slavery and how tough it was. This is the first of many readings about Slavery to Travon.
The book was good, I thought it ended abruptly maybe it was my copy but I would be interested in reading more.
ReplyDeleteI thought the book was very informative as well. It did end in an odd way, but I guess the person who also commented felt the same way. The pre-recorded classes are a really good idea. I like having the option of doing this course on a Sunday night and not having to worry about going to the class on Monday.
ReplyDeleteThe book was definitely a good read. It allowed one to gaze into the mindset and times of the slavery period. I agree with my peer when he said it ended abruptly, but overall, it was a good book.
ReplyDeleteI expected outrageous punishment to be a more grueling and demonstrative tell of slavery in respect to the history of blacks and their origin in the U.S of America. Though slightly disappointed I must say, that this book did hit on a few historical issues concerning the typical runaway slave, fair-toned individuals, and prostitution. It made me think of we what could have accomplished, where we would be today as a nation, and how we would live our lives if we had not suffered through slavery during that time. Fuel for thought.
ReplyDeleteThe book was an interesting read. The ending definitely was different. However, the general message was compelling and the historical issues the book focused on were important to think about.
ReplyDeleteI want to talk about the video and the pre-recorded classes. I think that it is a nice addition to the class because they allow you to learn at your own pace. To be honest, on the very first day of class I was shocked to see a pre-recorded class because it was something that I have never seen before, but I liked it because it opened my mind up to a new style of teaching. So, I say yes to more pre-recorded classes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Terence, the pre-recorded class, along with the recorded class, allows me to go back and take additional notes, and often times pick up more the second time around then i did during the first time attending class.
DeleteThe book was an interesting read, although the ending fell short of my expectations. It was interesting to learn about the first slave rebellion in the North America's happened in the 1600's. In my personal opinion, there could have been many more slave rebellions; but blacks never trust each others ability to execute plans and as they say "never bring a knife to a gunfight",
ReplyDeleteI agree the ending was not what i accepted, I thought it could have gave more examples of slave treatment, however on second thought the book was free. It also gave references to some books told by slaves that i never heard off and will be sure to catch up on.
DeleteOutrageous Punishment reminded me of a World History freshman year where I learned africentric history rather than eurocentric history. It was refreshing to read over the different slave accounts, rebellions, statistics and the like. A couple takeaways from the book is that we are our own demise and we have the power to rectify our plight and it should be one's duty as an African-American (esp. AA male) to remove themselves from conciliatory racism, segregation, and discrimination that still plagues us today. Moreover, from this understanding, if we don't give back to our communities whether monetarily, intellectually, or physically, then we fail as educated black men in society.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good read and it kept me intrigued. The history was interesting and I wish I could've read more.
ReplyDeleteThis was a really interesting read. I found some parts really gruesome, but it made me appreciate how far we've come. It's funny how only some of this information was covered in Black History in schools.
ReplyDeleteBrian Marshall -This book was a great book on how Blacks were treated back in the days and it sad how our lives didn't mean nothing at all. It gave insight on different aspect of slavery. Life wasn't always sweet for us African Americans and Im just happy that we moving on from those horrible days
ReplyDeleteTravis B.- This was a great story, but I hate that the ending was not as strong as the narrative's main objective. However overall its was a must read story.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great read. I enjoyed reading most of it although some parts upset me. The historical perspectives that were presented made me think about the plight of our people and how far we have come through many dangers, toils, and snares. Overall, it was a great book and I appreciate the progress that we have made.
ReplyDeleteGary Clark II- This book provided some great insight with the details it presented. Interesting to read about the success of some of the rebellious activities. Very eye-opening.
ReplyDeleteThis book provided great insight. Really opened up my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThe book was interesting, but at the end it left me feeling like there should have been more.
ReplyDeleteThe book was very true. It highlighted numerous points that I have and have not know about. The length was the right size. This book made me sit back and think what the slaves did to get free. I really love how some slaves stood up to there slave owner.

ReplyDeleteDefinite respect to this book and its purpose. I would like to actually read more books where is tells the stories of our people. The author used a smart technique, which was to appeal to your emotions using images and telling graphics details. If you did get riled or upset thats the purpose.
